This particular exercise is found in weight lifting competitions and is often times used to develop explosive strength and hypertrophy. However, this exercise serves many more purposes: When using proper form you can out-lift a stronger individual, you learn to use kinetic linking, train your nervous system especially hard on the negative and burn more calories than 99% of the other exercises. Adjustments must be made based on gender (heavier weights for guys than girls), experience level (novice lifter must focus on form more), injuries and postural deviations. By learning how to do this exercise correctly you are essentially learning to move correctly, and thereby learning to perform all other exercises better.
